The original 1960’s built 4, Highbury Street could only be described a cold, dark and characterless house. We initially saw the opportunity to increase the living space by extending upwards on top of the flat roof and create a roof terrace. This would open up an eclectic view of Portsmouth taking in the Cathedral, Emirates Spinnaker Tower, Old Portsmouth and Southsea Common.

Another confined build, involving working at height, this project was not dissimilar to a loft conversion. A timber-framed Mansard roof was constructed on top of the existing building. All the windows were replaced with Velfac’s 200 aluminium/wood system and French doors were introduced at ground floor onto the courtyard garden and third floor onto the newly formed roof terrace.

A complete refurbishment was undertaken, taking every opportunity to open up the internal accommodation to create a more open and bright space. Work included a cantilevered bay window with a glass to glass corner, replacement kitchen, two new bathrooms, oak engineered flooring, a bespoke internal carpentry package and decked areas.

We are delighted that 4 Highbury Street features on the Soho-based designer furniture company, Made’s, website.
