Bath Square – VELFAC V200

Bespoke architectural doors for a Grade II listed property

Westcott Architectural Glazing supplied and installed a bespoke VELFAC V200 window and door package as part of the transformation of this Grade II listed property in Bath Square, Old Portsmouth. At the heart of the new mansard level, the glazed French doors provide a direct connection between the new master suite and roof terrace, while slim-framed glazing maximises views across Portsmouth Harbour and the Solent.

Bespoke glazed doors for a new roof terrace

The refurbishment replaced the existing roof with a timber-framed mansard structure, creating a new master suite, en-suite bathroom and roof terrace. Working within a historic building and a restricted city-centre site required careful planning and precise installation.

Bespoke outward-opening VELFAC V200 glazed French doors were installed to provide access onto the new terrace. Finished externally in RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey, the doors give the contemporary extension a clean, understated appearance while complementing the character of the original eighteenth-century property.

Slim-framed doors designed around the architecture

The VELFAC V200 system combines timber internally with slim aluminium externally, creating a refined door design with minimal visual framing. This was particularly important for the project, allowing the doors to maximise both natural light and the expansive views across the harbour.

Opening directly onto the roof terrace, the French doors also create a strong connection between the interior and exterior spaces. Their proportions and restrained detailing help the new addition feel contemporary without overwhelming the listed building.

Precision installation on a challenging site

With restricted access and limited storage available, the installation required careful coordination with the wider refurbishment programme. Each made-to-measure door was installed with close attention to the new structure, weathering details and surrounding finishes.

The completed project demonstrates how bespoke architectural doors can combine contemporary design and performance with the sensitive requirements of a historic property. The finished transformation was later featured in Ideal Home and received a Best of Houzz Design Award.
