Marine Court Extension – VELFAC

Located just moments from the Southsea seafront, the Marine Court extension was designed to create a bright, contemporary living space with a strong connection to the garden. Central to the success of the project was the careful specification of glazing, ensuring the new extension would be flooded with natural light throughout the day while providing seamless access to the outdoor space.

The existing single-storey structure offered little practical use and failed to maximise the potential of the property. Following its demolition, a larger extension was constructed to create an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area tailored to modern family living.

To maximise daylight and enhance the sense of space, large-format VELFAC 200 composite windows and doors were installed throughout the extension. The system’s slim sightlines and expansive glazed panels allow uninterrupted views of the garden while drawing natural light deep into the interior. The contemporary aesthetic of the VELFAC 200 system complements the clean architectural lines of the extension, while delivering outstanding thermal performance and comfort throughout the year.

A key feature of the design is the direct connection between the internal living spaces and the landscaped garden. Full-height glazed doors open onto a cedar-decked veranda, creating a seamless transition between inside and out. This strong visual and physical connection ensures the garden becomes a natural extension of the living space, particularly during the warmer months.

The extension itself is constructed using traditional brickwork and finished with a durable glass reinforced plastic (GRP) roof system, providing a robust and low-maintenance solution. Internally, bespoke joinery, including a handcrafted kitchen with marble worktops and reclaimed scaffold board detailing, adds character and individuality to the space. Engineered oak flooring and underfloor heating further enhance comfort and create a warm, welcoming environment.

The result is a light-filled contemporary extension where glazing plays a defining role, transforming the way the property interacts with its surroundings and creating a versatile living space that can be enjoyed throughout the year.
