Fair Rising – VELFAC V200

Designed by architect Carl Leroy Smith, Fair Rising – VELFAC V200 makes the most of a beautiful location on the edge of the South Downs National Park.

The front elevation features full-height glazed façades that rise into the distinctive double-pitched roof. These windows bring maximum light and beautiful views into the living and dining areas. They also flood the first-floor bedrooms with natural light. The bedrooms feature VELFAC glazed sliding doors that open onto balconies.

At the rear, an impressive full-width bi-fold door links the kitchen to a courtyard paved with local stone. An additional balcony sits above. The team painted both the internal timber and external aluminium frames black. Internally, the black frame creates a stronger visual feature. Externally, it blends into the glazed façade.

The design team carefully addressed the risk of unwanted solar gain. They specified manually opening VELFAC units, motorised VELUX roof windows and an MHVR system. Together, these elements maintain good air circulation. In addition, the design sets the glazing back 1200mm into the façade. This provides extra shade from the extended timber-framed eaves, walls and first-floor balconies.

Working with the experts at Composite Windows UK, the project team met thermal targets and building regulations through a combination of triple- and double-glazed units. Both options are Secured by Design approved and offer excellent U-values. As a result, heating bills remain low despite the vaulted ceilings. Acoustic performance is also very impressive.
