Bath Square – VELFAC V200

Situated in the heart of Old Portsmouth, Bath Square is an eighteenth-century property located just moments from Portsmouth Harbour. As part of a comprehensive refurbishment, the existing roof structure was removed and replaced with a timber-framed Mansard roof, creating additional accommodation and unlocking views across the harbour and Solent.

The project presented several challenges, including restricted access, limited storage space and the complexities associated with extending a Grade II listed building. Careful consideration was required to ensure the new structure respected the character of the original property while delivering a contemporary living environment.

Westcott Architectural Glazing supplied and installed bespoke VELFAC V200 composite windows and glazed French doors throughout the new extension. Finished in RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey, the outward-opening VELFAC windows were selected to provide a contemporary aesthetic while complementing the historic character of the property. The slim frame profiles maximise natural daylight and help frame the panoramic coastal views from the newly created living spaces.

The glazed French doors provide direct access to a new roof terrace, creating a strong connection between the interior and exterior while taking full advantage of the property’s elevated position overlooking Portsmouth Harbour.

The newly created upper floor accommodates a master suite with en-suite bathroom and bespoke storage crafted from reclaimed materials. The completed project successfully combines historic character with modern glazing solutions, transforming an underutilised roof space into a bright, functional and visually connected living environment.

The project was featured in the January 2016 issue of Ideal Home magazine and received a Best of Houzz Award for Design, recognising the quality of the transformation and attention to detail throughout.

What Our Clients Say

Mr D Sprague

We had some Rationel windows installed as part of a renovation to a listed building. The service we received from both the sales team (James and Kelly) and the installation team (Gavin, Ryan, Steve and Josh) was excellent. The sales team were patient as we went through multiple iterations to get the specification correct and provided all the information we needed for our planning application. Gavin worked closely with our builder to ensure that our builder understood the required preparatory works. The installation team were friendly, polite and efficient. There were some complexities identified during the works which were resolved promptly with a wholly positive attitude. Both the product and installers are great. Id happily recommend them.
