Villa Aalto stands proudly on the site of what was once home to a dated chalet bungalow. Just metres from the coast, in this sought-after Hampshire location, the original nondescript property had vast potential to be dramatically transformed.
Carl Leroy Smith’s inspiration for the design of Villa Aalto was Finnish architect Alvar Aalto’s Villa Mairea – one of the most famous houses of the early 20th Century.
Construction began by virtually clearing the site, leaving only three walls of the original property. Single storey extensions and a re-located garage were built in blockwork, with a timber-framed, flat roofed first storey to the original building, which dramatically increased the floor area.
The property features glass reinforced plastic (GRP) flat roofs and a combination of white silicon-based render and Western Red Cedar clad elevations. It is complimented by an Iroko framed pergola over a south-facing veranda and Cedar clad balcony above, accessible from all four bedrooms.
Inside, the property features four luxurious bathrooms and a contemporary high gloss kitchen with a combination of Quartz and Iroko work surfaces. The entire ground floor is heated by underfloor heating and the property boasts a host of innovative features coupled with a bespoke carpentry package, which makes use of the scaffold boards used during the build.
The end result is an outstanding contemporary coastal home, beautifully designed and displaying striking architectural and construction expertise.
